Poster For A Food Festival
Project Overview
This poster started as a school project where the mission was to design promotional materials for a fictional event. We had total creative freedom with the theme, and since I’m a huge food lover myself, I decided to create a food festival inspired by a classic picnic. The main goal of the assignment was to experiment with layout and composition.
The Challenge
The biggest challenge for me was finding the right balance between simplicity and theme. I wanted the design to feel clean and minimalist, while still clearly communicating that cozy picnic vibe. It was a fine line between keeping the layout bold and clean while using the gingham pattern and food truck illustration to trigger that relaxed picnic feeling.
The Concept
The idea was to combine a modern street food festival, think food truck classics like burritos and sandwiches, with the cozy, social feel of a traditional picnic. To capture the community spirit of a picnic, I focused on creating a warm and welcoming vibe. For me, the classic red-and-white gingham pattern was a must-have, as it instantly signals that picnic feeling.
The Execution
Everything was designed in Adobe Illustrator, where I challenged myself to use custom vector illustrations instead of stock photos. Since a poster needs to catch your eye in seconds, whether you are passing by in a car, on a bus, or cycling, I focused on a bold, high-contrast look. The typography was selected to be super readable from a distance while adding a gritty, street-style edge. I chose the red color to trigger that picnic nostalgia and act as a powerful attention-grabber. Finally, instead of a rigid square grid, I placed the pattern inside an irregular, fluid shape to make the overall composition feel alive, energetic, and less flat.
